Garrett Applauds Christie Tax Plan

Governor Christie’s proposal to cut state income taxes by 10 percent for all New Jerseyans is the right idea to help get our economy moving again. New Jerseyans are among the highest taxed people in the nation. It’s refreshing to have a Governor committed to changing that.

Congressman Scott Garrett today graciously accepted the endorsements of Bergen County Executive Kathe Donovan, Sheriff Mike Saudino, Freeholder Chairman John Mitchell, Freeholder Vice Chairman John Felice, and Freeholders John Driscoll, Rob Hermansen, and Maura DeNicola. “These Republican leaders are improving the quality of life in Bergen County, and I’m proud to have their support,” said Congressman Scott Garrett. “They will all be an important part of my campaign this year as we bring our winning message of lower taxes, less spending, and smaller government to towns across Bergen County.”

Congressman Garrett was today endorsed for re-election by the Chairman of the New Jersey Republican Party and all four Republican County Chairs from New Jersey’s 5th Congressional District. “I am proud to have the support of these terrific Republican leaders, and I look forward to continuing to fight on behalf of the entire 5th District,” said Congressman Scott Garrett. “As I travel around Bergen, Passaic, Sussex, and Warren Counties, it is clear that the top issue is the economy. That is why I will continue working to create jobs, decrease taxes, and rein in wasteful spending.”

Garrett is a fiscal conservative who time and again has opposed the profligate spending policies of the Obama administration, such as the $787 billion stimulus, health care reform of 2010 and massive debt that are blindly supported by Garrett's critics. We need more members like him in Congress.

Garrett has conducted himself very well in the Congress and has built a strong record that we can be proud of. He took a stand against government waste before there ever was a Tea Party. He votes against both parties regularly and has proved to be an independent fighter for the taxpayers.

The new 5th Congressional District includes many of the same towns that it currently does, but with a few important changes. In Bergen County, the district lost Cresskill and Tenafly and picked up Fair Lawn, Maywood, Lodi, Hackensack, Bogota, and part of Teaneck. In Passaic County, the district lost Wanaque and Bloomingdale. In Sussex County, the district lost Ogdensburg and Sparta. In Warren County, the district lost Harmony, Franklin, Lopatcong, Greenwich, Phillipsburg, Alpha, and Pohatcong.

The 5th District contains many towns and constituents that I have had the privilege to represent and several new towns and new constituents whom I look forward to meeting. Some of the district’s lines may have changed, but my commitment to working to protect the family budget continues. Very important issues have been and will continue to be debated and voted on in Washington on behalf of New Jerseyans. I look forward to continuing my work to create jobs, decrease taxes, and rein in wasteful spending.

With New Jersey’s unemployment rate locked in at 9.2 percent, residents of the Garden State are all too familiar with the economic travails facing our country. Understanding the challenges confronting job creators is a top priority of mine as I work to put my constituents back to work, which is why I recently took to the road for a tour of businesses in the 5th District to discuss job creation and the state of the economy with local business leaders.

I would like to congratulate this year’s local Republican candidates. Win or lose, they engaged voters across New Jersey on our shared conservative principles. I had the pleasure to campaign with many of these candidates in Bergen, Passaic, Sussex, and Warren Counties, and I saw first-hand how their message of lower taxes, less spending, and more jobs resonated with voters. I look forward to getting back on the trail next year with even more candidates committed to these principles.
