Garrett: Accounting tricks hide FHA insurance risk

April 29, 2013

The great political economist Frédéric Bastiat aptly observed, "People are beginning to realize that the apparatus of government is costly. But what they do not know is that the burden falls inevitably on them." To look at it another way, there is no such thing as a free lunch when it comes to government programs. The costs are always borne by the American people. The facts indicate that, not only is government costly, but also it costs more than initially expected. Simply put, the burden of government rarely comes in under budget.

Letter to the Editor: Republican budget only one that makes sense

March 24, 2013

For each of the past four years, House Republicans have proposed a budget for our federal government. Senate Democrats, meanwhile, abdicated their responsibility and did not propose a budget for roughly four years. That's why our government has been funded by one emergency stopgap bill to the next. Finally, we have fewer Americans receiving health care through their employers.

March 17, 2013

Letter to the Editor: Senate Dems come up with wasteful budget

March 14, 2013

For the first time in four years, Democrats in the U.S. Senate have proposed a budget for the federal government. This gives Americans their first chance in years to see the Democrats’ specific spending priorities. So what is in their budget proposal: $1 trillion in new taxes and $100 billion in new stimulus spending, half of which is dedicated to so-called “shovel-ready” transportation projects. As you can imagine, the budget does not balance.

We look forward to working with the Republican tickets in each county to deliver victory this November.
